A/Prof Shiva Subramaniam

Mitcham Private Hospital would like to introduce A/Prof Subramaniam who was born and raised in Perth, WA. He completed Dentistry at the University of Western Australia and his medical degree at the University of Melbourne. Following medical school, his speciality, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRACDS OMS) training was completed in Victoria, where he was awarded the prestigious Australian & New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Gold Medal for achieving the highest mark in the specialist examination.

 

He then spent a further 2 years in subspecialty training in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction. During this time, he completed the UK and Ireland Speciality examination via the Royal College of Surgeons, where he was once again awarded the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Gold Medal for achieving the highest mark in the examination across the United Kingdom and Ireland, making him the only surgeon in the history of both examinations to win both the Australia/ New Zealand and UK/Ireland medals.

 

After working overseas for many years as an Oral, Maxillofacial and Reconstructive Surgeon, he returned home to Australia to commence public and private practice. He is currently working as a consultant at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Eastern Health, and in private practice in Melbourne. He is also appointed to the University of Melbourne in both academic and clinical roles. His scope of practice includes wisdom teeth, dentoalveolar surgery, complex dental implants (including zygomatic implants), orthognathic surgery, benign and malignant pathology of the head and neck, salivary gland disease, facial trauma, skin cancer and free tissue transfer/ microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck. He is fully credentialed by the RACDS(OMS) for subspeciality practice in Head & Neck Oncology/ Microvascular Reconstruction.
