About
Dr Andrew Muir has been a registered medical practitioner since 1983. He completed his medical degree at the University of Tasmania, followed by residency and initial Anaesthesia training at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
His anaesthesia training was completed in 1994 and included positions within the Anaesthesia Departments of Leicester and Oxford in the United Kingdom, as well as St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, and The Royal Women’s Hospital Melbourne. He also completed a Master of Science (Pharmacology) at the University of London in 1990.
Andrew undertook Pain Medicine training at the Royal North Shore Hospital from 1994 to 1997. In 1998, he established the Barbara Walker Centre for Pain Management at St Vincent’s Hospital and served as Director until 2008. He was also appointed Clinical Director of the Geelong Hospital Pain Clinic in 1998. In 1999, he was awarded Foundation Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
Andrew works full time in Pain Medicine across both private and public healthcare settings. His clinical practice includes interventional approaches to chronic non cancer pain and multidisciplinary pain management strategies. His work also includes medico legal assessments through the Melbourne Pain Group.
He has been involved in registrar education through the ANZCA teaching program for Primary and Final Fellowship examinations between 1998 and 2009, and has served as Supervisor of Training at the Barbara Walker Centre for Pain Management.
