Dr Gerard Bourke

Dr Bourke has more than 25 years’ experience in foot and ankle surgery and is capable of treating all conditions in foot and ankle surgery. Dr Bourke has a special interest in foot, ankle and knee disorders and has previously worked full-time in sports medicine, however treats patients of all types.

He has worked as the assistant Richmond Football Club doctor (AFL) for two years and a member of Sports Medicine Australia for over 20 years.

He also has vast experience in the operative and non-operative treatment of diabetic and neuropathic foot ulcers

Dr Bourke is a leader in innovative surgical techniques including great toe replacement surgery, quadriceps tendon for use in knee reconstructive surgery, synthetic ligaments to augment ankle ligament reconstruction.

An experienced researcher, Dr Bourke has delivered multiple presentations at local and international conferences and is the inventor of an absorbable pin for use in the treatment of claw toes which is sold worldwide.

Dr Bourke is the owner and operator of the only weight bearing CT scanner in Queensland that provides 3D images of the foot and ankle immediately with minimal radiation and no waiting for a result or the need for another appointment.  This service is bulk billed for his patients.

Allied health/physiotherapy support in the rooms to provide a “One Stop Shop”. No need for multiple different appointments during post-operative recovery. One visit to the clinic covers post-operative care, radiological imaging and rehabilitation/physiotherapy advice/treatment, as well as supply of medical aids (CAM walking boots, compression stockings, heel cushions etc).

Dr Bourke looks forward to continuing his great interest in health and wellbeing living on the Sunshine Coast, and is a long-time participant in beach volleyball, triathlons, AFL football and fitness retreats.
