About

Dr Jowita Kozlowska is a Specialist General Physician with extensive experience caring for older adults with complex medical conditions, multimorbidity, and acute illness. Much of her career has been spent working in hospital settings, caring for patients and supporting them and their families through critical illness, recovery, and complex discharge planning.

Through this work, Dr Kozlowska has cared for many older patients who experienced significant loss of function following acute illness, often requiring transition to residential aged care. These experiences have strongly shaped her current clinical focus and reinforced the importance of earlier, proactive medical care.

In her private rooms, Dr Kozlowska now focuses on healthy ageing and supporting patients before illness or functional decline becomes established. Her approach is centred on comprehensive assessment, risk reduction, optimisation of chronic disease management, and careful review of medications, always guided by individual values and goals. She works closely with patients to help them remain active, independent, and well as they age.

Dr Kozlowska commonly sees patients with multiple medical conditions who benefit from clear prioritisation of care and coordinated management. She has particular clinical interests in cardiovascular and metabolic health, including heart failure, stroke prevention, and type 2 diabetes, as well as bone health, osteoporosis, and falls risk assessment. She also provides perioperative medical care, including pre-operative assessment and optimisation for patients with complex medical needs, and inpatient perioperative consultations in collaboration with surgeons.

Across all settings, Dr Kozlowska values clear communication, continuity of care, and strong collaboration with general practitioners and allied health professionals. She aims to provide timely, practical recommendations that support ongoing care in the community and reduce avoidable hospitalisation.

Originally from Poland, Dr Kozlowska completed her medical degree at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and her PhD at the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. After relocating to Australia, she undertook specialist training in General Medicine across several Brisbane hospitals, including the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital, and Ipswich Hospital.

She attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018 and has since worked as a general physician in both public and private hospital settings, including Lismore Base Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital Lismore, and the Royal Hobart Hospital. Her work has included significant experience in caring for adults with complex medical needs, along with perioperative medicine, particularly supporting older patients undergoing vascular and orthopaedic surgery. Dr Kozlowska has also undertaken focused clinical experience in geriatric medicine at Canberra Hospital, further informing her approach to the care of older adults.

Dr Kozlowska enjoys teaching and supervising medical students and junior doctors. She has previously received an award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning from the University Centre for Rural Health (2019) and will take on the role of Advanced Trainee Supervisor in General Medicine at Noosa Hospital in 2026.

Outside of work, Dr Kozlowska enjoys cycling, practising yoga, learning languages, and spending time outdoors on the Sunshine Coast
