Clinical Practice
Dr Vijaya Venkataraman is a Specialist General Medicine Physician with expertise in acute medicine, cardiometabolic, lipidology and perioperative medicine. She has a strong interest in perioperative care and is available to support surgeons and patients at Hollywood Private Hospital with comprehensive inpatient perioperative medical management. She values building strong rapport with patients and their families and recognises the importance of collaborative teamwork with nursing and allied health staff in ensuring a safe and positive patient journey. Dr Vijaya offers a no-gap service for inpatient consultations.
Alongside her private practice, Dr Vijaya is a Senior Consultant Physician in the Medical Assessment Unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where she continues to make a significant contribution to perioperative medicine within the public health system.
Background & Training
Dr Vijaya completed her MBBS and MD (Medicine) in India between 1992 and 2000, followed by three years of subspecialty training in cardiology and echocardiography in Mumbai. She subsequently moved to the United Kingdom, where she attained both MRCP and FRCP qualifications, before relocating to Australia in the early 2000s. She was awarded her FRACP after successfully completing the cardiology exit examinations at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, NSW. More recently, Dr Venkataraman completed a Master of Medicine (Perioperative Medicine) MMed (POM) at Monash University in October 2023, following two years of formal training, and her practice is further supported by a Graduate Certificate (Chapter) in Perioperative Medicine from ANZCA and certification in Cardiometabolic Medicine (CCHP).
Dr Vijaya has also served as Co-Lead Medical Coordinator for the University of Western Australia’s Rural Clinical School at the Kalgoorlie campus. In addition, she previously provided perioperative care at the Neurospine Institute Perth, where she played a key role in establishing and developing their perioperative medicine service.
